Welcome!
A while ago, I decided to start blogging about Generation Y. As we join the workforce, there's a lot being discussed about the challenges millennials and their bosses are facing as they figure out the new rules for co-existing in the same office. There's also a lot of buzz about Gen. Y's power as consumers. And the Gen. Y blogosphere is thriving.
I spent a lot of time trying to narrow the focus of my theoretical Gen. Y blog. Then I realized that my inability to concentrate on one topic sort of speaks to what it means to be a member of this generation. As a millennial, single-issue pursuits can often appear shallow to me. They focus on one thing while neglecting life's complex nature, which has been pretty evident to me and other members of this generation who grew up in the information age.
I didn't want to preclude my blog from exploring almost any topic that might have relevance for millennials. So I decided to stop thinking and just start blogging. I'm interested in how Gen. Y is interacting with new media, journalism, global health issues, the work place, education, politics, gender issues... These are just some of the topics you might see covered on The Schiff Report.
I'll end this introductory post with a thought that Jon Ostrower of Flightblogger used in his first post. It's resonated with me since the first time I read it:
The birth of any blog reminds me of an eternal question, 'If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?' The answer, especially when you're a blogger, is yes. It's almost like talking to yourself.

Great post! I look forward to following this blog very closely.
Hi Jacs.
So chuffed to have found your blog. Good stuff, all round. Esp the link to Holton's writing rules... I'd like to link my blog/s to it, if that's okay, as some of you're saying resonates with a lot of what we're seeing in the media and marketing industries in SA right now.
Love Tiff x
